Project Synopsis
A timid girl with a rare disease is confronted with a crude lack of acceptance from society just as she longs to have a meaningful connection with another girl with the underlying fear of being outcasted due to her "imaginary" problem.
Character 1
Isabella
Age
14-19
Gender
Female
Description
Isabella - the main character - suffers from a disease known as "myotonic dystrophy" (a problem that inhibits regular muscle movement and delays muscle relaxation - refer to this video for an example of the side effects of the disease: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wg1SVoa-8JE). She is quite shy and delicately communicates with people she doesn't know too well. She often walks around with a cane in places where she isn't to be judged. (Note that this character does not need to have this disease to be considered in the audition.)
Character 2
Lily
Age
14-19
Gender
Female
Description
A jovial, high-spirited individual. Lily is the unlikely ray of sunshine in all of Isabella's darkness. She is a spontaneous, extroverted teen who likes to ponder everyday life's nuances, unlike Isabella who tends to struggle with allowing herself to see beauty. While Lily seems like any other normal girl, she walks with a prosthetic leg that is there as a symbol of her greatest surmounts. When she is not busy doing schoolwork, she can often be found writing poems that showcase her detail-oriented, mature breadth of thought (again, this character does not need to have a prosthetic leg to be considered).
Character 3
Father
Age
30-45
Gender
Male
Description
Not a father one could say is quite content with the condition his daughter has. That is if she quote-unquote "even has one." Being a doctor himself, he is fed up with the fabricated "games" that Isabella plays, constantly complaining and inquiring about her unknown disease. Angered by Isabella's indifference, he brings her to a doctor whose testimony he hopes will relieve him from listening to Isabella's problems. His well-dressed demeanor in collared shirts only serves to heighten his sense of self-worth and ego.
Character 4
Dr Yoon
Age
20-30
Gender
Male
Description
Dresses exactly like any normal doctor that you would see in a medical clinic. Holding a clipboard as he makes observations, his denial of anything substantial to Isabella's case is in due part to an underlying aversion to admitting what he does not know which unfortunately cannot be ascertained from any book at the time this story takes place.
Character 5
Mother
Age
30-45
Gender
Female
Description
Isabella's mother is neutral but supportive of her daughter. She doesn't have a place she stands in how Isabella perceives her problem, but she provides Isabella with the basic needs any child will have.
