Project Synopsis
A charming serial predator targets a guarded Dr. Amelia through a dating app. What he doesn't know is this one may just be his downfall. This is a prelude to a feature length spec script.
Additional Information & Safety Protocols:

No nudity. No sexually involved scenes.
A potential brutal death scene which may be cut from the screenplay.

Character 1
Amelia K
Age
25-35
Gender
Female
Description
Intelligent, composed, highly observant. On the surface, she seems tired but functional as a capable doctor who lives alone, trying to maintain a normal life. Underneath, she is a woman shaped by severe trauma and mistrust from men. Her very real fear has hardened into something dangerous. ARC - she is introduced as a potential victim, but the gradually unfolds as her being the apex predator. What we're looking for is the expressiveness in the eyes and the ability to make bold, believable choices. Someone who can hold sweet warmth and cold danger at the same time.
Character 2
Det. Laurie B.
Age
40s
Gender
Female
Description
Experienced and sharp detective, who is tired of being underestimated. She works in a male-dominated environment where her instincts are overlooked, but she sees what others miss. She is controlled, investigative, and quietly intense. ARC - she is introduced near the end of the short film as Amelia's future main obstacle, setting up a larger cat & mouse story in the spec script. We're looking for someone with fantastic screen presence here. This character operates from a place of stillness, focus, and a calculative nature.
Character 3
Detective Josh S.
Age
40s to 50s
Gender
Male
Description
Josh symbolizes the dismissive misogynistic culture Laurie works against. He is by no means a villain, but he is casual, a bit arrogant, and has a fragile ego. His attitude is part of the future feature spec script's larger theme: dangerous men are ignored or minimized until someone intervenes. He is mildly arrogant, complacent, dismissive, and someone defensive. We're looking for subtlety with this character as it can be very easily slip into exaggeration. His toxicity comes through small behaviors: tone, private moment, reactions etc.
Character 4
Ruby
Age
25-35
Gender
Female
Description
Radiant, lively, and trusting. She appears in the opening scene as Colby's date. She is expressive and very friendly, which makes the scene disturbing as the audience sees how little Colby sees her as a person. Looking for someone with a natural brightness and emotional openness.
Character 5
Sarah
Age
20s-30s
Gender
Female
Description
Relatable, emotionally accessible, open. Amelia's friend and emotional contrast. She speaks openly about her dating frustrations and wants someone normal. Her conversation with Amelia gives us a sneak peak into Amelia's worldview. She is a person who symbolizes "mild" dating anxiety, compared to Amelia's much darker understanding of danger. Looking for someone warm, conversational, and believable as a close friend.
Additional Characters

Psychologist - 50s Male - He appears in Amelia's flashback as an advisor who may sound reasonable on the surface, but for Amelia, he symbolizes a form of severe dismissal. He is calm, unintentionally patronizing, and emotionally uninvolved.

Waiter - 25-65, any gender - waiter in the restaurant is part of Colby's "hunting" environment, wherein he hunts surrounded by ordinary people who fail to notice what he is doing.

Junior Cop - 20s - 30s, any gender - Brings in a file that shifts the investigation against the killer. Professional, slightly nervous, respectful toward Laurie and Josh.
