Chivalrous is the story of a boy named Tommy, 14, and how he overcomes the fears of the unknown, both around him and within. Raised solely by his mother Teresa, Tommy showcases a fearful and timid disposition in his childhood, scared of the ‘monsters’ that lurk in the woods. In his youth and swept up in the fantasy of comic books and superheroes, he witnesses a monster in his home in the form of his abusive stepfather, who tyrannises his mother and himself. Inspired by his comics, Tommy returns to the woods that once scared him and discovers the iconic weapon of his favourite hero, a silver-clad lance. With weapon in hand, Tommy exits the wood and storms up the road, no longer afraid.

Character 1 Description:
Tommy has grown up in a largely fatherless home since the loss of his father at a young age. In this and other lackings, Tommy has distanced himself more and more from reality and the people around him. More concerned with his connection to media, Tommy is a child raised by comics -- and his mother. He daydreams of other worlds and often fantasizes himself as a hero, at least one day. With the marriage between his mother and John, Tommy sees a struggle with the expectations of John’s parenting methods and Teresa’s approach of indulging his comic fantasies. While largely happy being insulated from outside problems, he’s not so naive to be unaware of what’s going on around him in his home. He’s reluctant in having to act but feels he can’t act like a child forever.
Character 2 Description:
Tommy’s Biological Mother.
Fiercely independent, Teresa has raised Tommy on her own for the majority of his life. Her marriage with John is dual function in fulfilling her relationship needs while providing Tommy the parental support he deserves. Despite her best intentions, she’s growingly adversarial with John about how he parents her child. While he offers a stern approach, Teresa is fearful that his words and actions perpetuate a damaging self image of masculinity. She sees Tommy’s escapism as a form of exploration as he grows into adulthood, more akin to a phase than any long term detriment as John suggests.
Character 3 Description:
John’s father was the same way to him as John is to Tommy, stern to a point of callous. Despite coming across as villainous and cruel, John’s intention is to help Tommy in the grand scheme of things and impart life lessons on him early, much like John’s father did for him. Although he doesn’t have his guard up all the time, the separation in ideals between Teresa and himself has put him more at odds and more confrontational to prove his point.
