Project Synopsis
Arachne: The First Spider is a short film drawn from the ancient Greek myth of Arachne, centered on the young weaver whose extraordinary talent and defiance bring her into direct conflict with Athena. Conceived as a disciplined adaptation grounded in classical tradition, the project seeks to preserve the severity, beauty, and symbolic force of the original myth rather than dilute it through casual revision. The result is a mythic drama concerned with creation, arrogance, judgment, and metamorphosis.
Additional Information & Safety Protocols:

Production will be conducted in a professional, respectful, and safety-conscious working environment. This project involves no intimacy coordination requirements as presently envisioned; if any such material is introduced, appropriate protocols and personnel will be put in place in advance. Further project details, scheduling information, and production context will be shared with selected applicants during the audition process.

Character 1
ARACHNE
Age
late teens to late 20s
Gender
Female
Description
A gifted young weaver of extraordinary discipline, intelligence, and pride. She is sharp, self-possessed, and unwilling to bow to reputation or divine authority when she believes her skill speaks for itself. The role requires strong dramatic presence and the ability to carry both intensity and restraint.
Character 2
ATHENA
Age
30s to 50s
Gender
Female
Description
The goddess of wisdom, craft, and order. Composed, authoritative, and formidable. She enters not as chaos but as judgment itself: controlled, penetrating, and severe. The role calls for gravitas, precision, and a commanding screen presence.
Character 3
OLD WOMAN / DISGUISED ATHENA
Age
50s to 80s
Gender
Female
Description
A bent and weathered mortal figure who appears frail but carries an unsettling force beneath the surface. This role may be doubled with Athena. Requires subtlety, control, and the ability to suggest hidden power beneath humility.
Character 4
CHORUS WOMAN / TOWNSPERSON
Age
20s to 60s
Gender
Open
Description
A witness from Arachne’s community. She represents the mortal world around the central conflict: admiration, anxiety, gossip, and fear of offending the gods. May function as a grounded social presence or symbolic observer depending on staging.
Character 5
CHORUS MAN / TOWNSPERSON
Age
20s to 60s
Gender
Open
Description
A member of the surrounding community who observes the rise of Arachne’s fame and the danger of her defiance. Can be played naturalistically or with a more formal mythic tone.
