Project Synopsis
This is a TV commercial for the local children's food charity Backpack Buddies (www.backpackbuddies.ca). The core objective of this commercial is to convey a powerful truth: in every corner of British Columbia, children are facing hunger—often in silence, often in plain sight. Drawing creative inspiration from the narrative work of Canadian filmmaker Goh Iromoto, this piece seeks to blend cinematic beauty with documentary authenticity. Through the parallel stories of Sophie and Emma, we aim to capture intimate, human moments that illuminate the hidden reality of food insecurity. Inspired by the organization’s message that “hunger lives in your neighbourhood”, the concept follows two children—one from a food-secure household, the other from a food-insecure home—through parallel morning routines and their day at school. The narrative culminates in the quiet revelation that these children are, in fact, neighbours.
