Project Synopsis
Set during the 2011 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs, an obsessive Vancouver Canucks fan, Dean Hawkins, believes something very bad is going to happen to him if the Canucks lose a game. Dean asks his best friend, Shane Graham, for help, but Shane struggles to believe Dean due to Dean’s substance abuse history, but mainly because of Dean’s inability to take responsibility for his past mistakes that have affected Shane and Dean’s own girlfriend, Hannah Hayes, who Dean constantly ignores and cheats on. Dean must find a way to stop this “curse” from coming to fruition or else everything he knows will perish. That is, of course, if this “curse” is real.

Dean’s life has gone off the rails. He nearly flunked out of high school, has been rejected by every college in the world, and got kicked out of a McDonalds job interview recently. To top it all off, he recently killed his parents in a drunk driving car accident on their way home from a Canucks game. He’s not coping with any of this well. His passion for the Canucks has morphed into a fetish-like obsession. He vicariously lives through the team, believing he is one of them. He has nothing else to look forward to in his life, other than the Canucks. This obsession twists into a paranoid delusion as he researches rabbit hole after rabbit hole, blaming all of his problems and mistakes on the Canucks and this “curse”. Dean fears his future and his inability to take responsibility for his mistakes prevents him from ever changing and finding hope.

Description
Due to a recent shoulder injury (caused by Dean), Shane can no longer play hockey, ruining his chances of making the NHL. As a result, Shane is forced to major in General Studies in college. Not exactly the life he planned. But Shane believes there’s hope so long as he takes action. He remains optimistic, willing to embrace the future. He holds no ill will towards Dean, despite the fact that they haven’t talked in months. He wants to help Dean, but he also wants Dean to at the very least, admit that he has been a bad friend and own up to his mistakes.

Dean has treated Hannah like shit. Ignoring her. Cheating on her. Treating her like a pet. She has had enough. Hannah believes her life can be better. She believes she deserves better. She believes there’s hope so long as she takes action. She is going to breakup with Dean unless he can admit his mistakes and apologize for how he has treated her.
