Each summer we also hire a very limited number of Canadian Actors’ Equity artists, who are paid union rates, alongside our professional technicians (members of IATSE Local 118), our Creative Team (who are often CAEA members), and design team. Members of the orchestra also receive small honoraria. Since 2018, we have been able to offer non-CAEA performers and backstage crew an “Expense Offset Payment” to help with some of the costs of participating in our shows (e.g., parking and/or transportation).

Project Synopsis
Based on one of Hans Christian Andersen's most beloved stories and the classic animated film, Disney's The Little Mermaid is a hauntingly beautiful love story for the ages. With music by eight-time Academy Award winner, Alan Menken, lyrics by Howard Ashman and Glenn Slater and a compelling book by Doug Wright, this fishy fable will capture your heart with its irresistible songs, including "Under the Sea," "Kiss the Girl" and "Part of Your World." Ariel, King Triton's youngest daughter, wishes to pursue the human Prince Eric in the world above, bargaining with the evil sea witch, Ursula, to trade her tail for legs. But the bargain is not what it seems, and Ariel needs the help of her colorful friends, Flounder the fish, Scuttle the seagull and Sebastian the crab to restore order under the sea.
Additional Information & Safety Protocols:

We seek to provide a showcase, a training ground and/or a great summer experience for performers and backstage crew. We welcome both emerging or amateur performers, who may have jobs and careers outside the theatre, and students of theatre who are looking to gain experience and showcase their talent in a working theatre environment.

Theatre Under the Stars encourages submissions from artists of all backgrounds, regardless of race, gender, national origin, age, religion, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression. When making casting decisions, the Creative Teams consider many different criteria; one is that we envision a cast that reflects the rich diversity of our performing arts community and of the communities across the Metro Vancouver area.

ACCESSIBILITY
TUTS is committed to helping to remove any barriers preventing an individual from attending auditions. We will do our best to accommodate anyone who wishes to be seen. Please email auditions@tuts.ca for any questions or requirements you may need (ie. child minding, mobility needs, sensory processing differences)

HEALTH & SAFETY
To address concerns for health and safety, we will be following a Communicable Disease Prevention Plan during auditions. These protocols include:

Touchless hand sanitizing stations will be provided at key entry and exit points to the building and to the stage and are highly encouraged to be used frequently.

Any individual who would like to take extra precautions for themselves during their visit and audition will be more than welcome to do so, without judgement.
