Project Synopsis
James is in a loving relationship with his girlfriend, Carly, but beneath the surface, he struggles with feelings of inadequacy and low self-worth. After being brutally beaten and humiliated in front of Carly following a Valentine's Day date, James becomes consumed by the belief that he must become stronger in order to protect her and prove that he is enough. As James dedicates himself to intense boxing training, Carly begins to notice him withdrawing from the relationship. While she simply wants him to be present and confident in who he is, James becomes increasingly fixated on strength, masculinity, and the need to prove himself. When Carly confronts him about his behavior, he lashes out. A year later, James finally tracks down the man who attacked him to get his revenge. But James is still left feeling hollow. When Carly discovers what he has done, a heated confrontation pushes their relationship past its breaking point, and she leaves. James now has to confront his insecurities alone.
Character 1
Carly
Age
early-mid 20's
Gender
Female
Description
James' girlfriend. Confident, outspoken, and impossible to ignore, Carly has a bold personality that fills every room she enters. Strong-willed and emotionally perceptive, Carly notices when James retreats into his insecurities and challenges him. When James ultimately isn’t able to come out of his insecurity, Carly makes the difficult and responsible choice to leave him, giving him the space to figure it out on his own.
Character 2
Chris
Age
30's-50's
Gender
Male
Description
James’ boxing coach during James’ journey to get stronger. Warm, outgoing, and endlessly encouraging, Chris sees boxing for more than just the physical aspect—it's a discipline that builds confidence, self-respect, and resilience. While James initially trains out of anger and a desire for revenge, Chris represents a healthier understanding of strength. *Boxing experience is a plus*
Character 3
Guy 1
Age
20's
Gender
Male
Description
The leader of the group. Tall, muscular, and intimidating, Guy 1 embodies an exaggerated and toxic version of masculinity. Aggressive, cruel, and constantly looking to assert dominance, he views strength as power over others. He exposes the insecurities James already carries within himself. Guy 1 represents the path James could follow if he allows his self-worth to become defined by physical dominance and the need to prove himself.
Character 4
Guy's 2 & 3
Age
20's
Gender
Male
Description
Loyal followers of Guy 1. Tall and physically imposing, they don’t think for themselves and eagerly follow the lead of Guy 1. They reinforce the false sense of masculinity the group imposes, helping create the pressure that James feels to measure up to their distorted ideals of manhood.
