Project Synopsis
Auditions are now open for The Horrifying Tale of The Brothers Grimm, a brand new historical mystery with an enchanting twist, presented in the legendary upstairs speakeasy theatre at Water Street Cafe in the heart of Gastown, directly beside Vancouver’s iconic Steam Clock. Known as one of the world’s most unforgettable dining destinations, Water Street Cafe has become home to the city’s most immersive and talked-about dinner theatre experience.
From Vancouver Dinner Theatre, the creators of sold out productions including The Gastown Witch Trials, The Last Night Onboard The Titanic, Dinner with Jack The Ripper, and two years worth of intriguing theatrical tales, comes an all-new original production blending history, suspense, dark humour, romance, and lively musical moments.
Journey into old-world Germany with Jacob Grimm and Wilhelm Grimm in this dark new theatrical reimagining of the famous brothers behind the world’s most haunting fairy tales. As political unrest spreads beneath a tyrannical regime, the brothers take refuge in a speakeasy above Water St Cafe, uncovering disturbing secrets, and transforming tragic real-life experiences into the twisted stories that would define generations.
The script is approximately 50 pages, and every role currently being cast is a central character with a substantial amount of dialogue and stage time. We are seeking strong performers with captivating stage presence, emotional range, and a love for scripted storytelling.

If you feel comfortable singing in this environment, please include a brief singing sample with your audition submission. However, we are absolutely open to casting non-singing actors if they are truly perfect for the role. Please do not hesitate to submit, even if you are not a singer. Strong acting performances remain our top priority.

October 7th, 5:00 - 10:00 pm - Full dress rehearsal with sound
We respect your time and we operate on a very short turnaround schedule for these high quality, sold-out productions, and therefore only require 3 in-person rehearsals. However, that means that we depend on our cast members to take responsibility for doing the bulk of their preparation on their own time. If any one member of the cast is not off-book for the rehearsals, we are unable to effectively workshop the scenes and characters and the very limited time that we have together is reduced to running lines. We recognize that this is a task that requires a high level of skill and enthusiasm for memorizing lines, and there are incredibly talented actors who cannot rise to this challenge. We ask that you please do not accept the role if this schedule does not fit with your process.
