Project Synopsis
Julia, a newly engaged woman in her mid-twenties, struggles with a question that terrifies her... what if love isn’t enough? With the help of a futuristic wristwatch, she time-travels back to Christmas Eve in her childhood home to speak with her late mother. What begins as a warm holiday reunion turns into a raw conversation about love, fear, and trust. Torn between her memories of her mother’s unhappy marriage and her own hopes for the future, Julia must decide whether she can believe in her partner, and in herself. This intimate, emotional, and heartwarming short film aims to blend family drama and romance with a hint of science fiction. Exploring the central question of how the past shapes the way we are able to love in the present.
Character 1
Julia
Age
20s-30s
Gender
Female
Description
A mid-twenties woman caught in an internal struggle surrounding her recent engagement. Stuck between her love for her fiancé and her instinct to overthink and spiral. Growing up and watching her parents’ unhealthy marriage, and the pain it caused her mother, Julia wants to believe in her fiancé and the love he has for her, but she finds herself still worried that it isn't enough. A woman who wants to be carefree and happy but is constantly held back by her overthinking and worried mind.
Character 2
Margaret
Age
20s-30s
Gender
Female
Description
A young mother (also in her mid-twenties) who strives to keep her family together despite the obstacles she faces. She has a five year old daughter (Julia) and an absent yet controlling husband. Living decades in the past, she deals with different expectations of what being a woman and a wife means, and the pressures that come with it. She loves Julia (both past and present) with all her heart and is a warm and caring mother despite her hardships. The exterior of an unhappy, traditional housewife; with a sweet and empathetic interior (specifically around her beloved daughter).
Character 3
Steven
Age
20s-30s
Gender
Male
Description
A man in his mid-twenties, engaged to Julia, and acts as her complete opposite. Upfront with his affection and dedication to Julia, his bold carefree style of loving contrasts Julia’s more quiet and pragmatic sensibilities. He knows Julia is going through a hard time and is there for her, whatever she needs; including if she needs to time travel in order to talk to her mother.
