Synopsis or Project Context (commercial/corporate projects, see note below):
In rural West Texas, an incompetent cowboy (John Arthur) has just killed an even less competent cowboy (Morgan Ranford). As he is bound to a strict code, John seeks to apologize to the mother (Mama Ranford) of the cowboy he killed - because apologizing for killing someone’s son makes everything better. When he pays Mama Ranford a visit to her home, John finds the apology more difficult than expected as she seems to show no grief over her son’s death. Midway through their talk, Mama Ranford gives John a slice of cake while she processes her feelings about her son’s death and John’s stupidity. Right as John believes that he’s successfully gotten Mama Ranford to forgive him, she reveals that she hasn’t and that John’s cake has been poisoned.

20-40
Character 1 Description:
Determined to be the best cowboy there ever was, John Arthur is a man chasing his own imagination. He’s sincere and tries his best in everything he does, but is unfortunately not the brightest bulb or the best communicator. It’s this constant tension between his valiant earnestness and his lack of tact that causes him to end up in sticky situations. After killing Mama Ranford’s son, Morgan, his biggest concern is not guilt over murder but being a dishonorable outlaw.
Character 2 Age:
45-70
Character 2 Name:
Mama Ranford
Character 2 Description:
World-weary and intolerant of fools, Mama Ranford is a shrewd and no-nonsense woman who will do whatever it takes to protect her peace. While she did not like her son, she definitely loved him, and for her that means fulfilling her duty as a mother to get revenge for his death. She presents herself as blunt and impatient, but every action she takes is carefully considered to bring her closer to her goals.

As Alice chooses to forget, Oliver clings to the past, desperate to preserve what once was. Intimate, melancholic, and hauntingly relevant, this short film reflects on the power of memory, love, and the quiet heartbreak of letting go.

Audition Location (if applicable):

Shoot / Performance Location(s):
Ron Basford Park Granville Island
Compensation / Rates:

Small profit share

Synopsis or Project Context (commercial/corporate projects, see note below):
Drawing from the aesthetics of Alphonse Mucha, 19th century Romanticism and Czech and Slovak folklore, We The Forest People is a kenspeckled world brushing up against our own, inspired by the rich intricacies of nature and self. People dance spiraling around each other in an open field. A lantern flickers brightly in the cool night air. A soft and lilting melody drifts on the crisp clear breeze. A man of moss leads the way, and a woman cloaked in white becomes frozen in time. Whimsical beings awaken and the forest stirs, rushing forth to encompass the walking dreamer. Like the paintings of the Romantics We the Forest People is a look into the emotions of nature, the adventures of the individual and the stories of heroes of old. It seeks answers to the questions: Why do we tell stories? Why must we tell stories? And what happens when a story is lost? Is it ever truly gone? Through flowing costumes and dancing in grass, durational stillness and durational endurance We The Forest People paints a world full of life, love and burning fire. Like wisps of memories of times long forgotten, paintings both ancient and new come to life in this thrilling adventure through another time and space.
