Character 1 Name:
Will/Lyn
Character 1 Age:
18-24
Character 1 Description:
Will/Lyn is a young adult dealing with the grief of his/her mother's recent death. After seeing his/her father stoic and emotionless at the funeral, Will/Lyn is determined to draw out the humanity in his/her father by trying to make him cry. What Will/Lyn really needs, more than anything, is someone to grieve with. Photographs mean a lot to Will/Lyn, and his/her room is full of them. He/she holds onto them dearly, as one holds onto the memories that shape who they are. Will/Lyn knows that expressing feelings sets people free, and wants the same for Dad.
Character 2 Age:
50s-70s
Character 2 Name:
Grandpa/Yeh Yeh
Character 2 Description:
Father of Dad, and grandfather to Will/Lyn. After the death of his wife, he raised his son strictly and allowed no room for emotional vulnerability. He yelled at his son to stop crying, and caned him if he didn’t. Now, however, he is a different man - old and filled with regret. He sees the damage he’s done to his son, and how it affects his grandchild now. As such, he is determined to work together with Will/Lyn to undo his wrongs and allow his son to cry again. Note: Ability to speak Cantonese an asset.
Character 3 Name:
Dad
Character 3 Age:
40s-50s
Character 3 Description:
Father of Will/Lyn. He lost his pet chicken when he was 9, and it saddened him so much he never had a pet again. He was a big crier when it came to movies. He lost his mother at the age of 14, and his wife just recently. These experiences of grief and loss created in him an emotionally sensitive heart. However, with stern discipline from his father and an upbringing that scorned emotional vulnerability, he is now a man of few words, and fewer emotions. He responds to everything - even the death of his wife - with neutrality and stoicism. His room is full of empty picture frames. He avoids keeping photos as he does his emotions, fearing that painful memories from his past will compromise his ability to be the man of the house his father brought him up to be. Note: Ability to speak Cantonese an asset.
