The problem is his identity is so tied up with being a pilot; he struggles to adapt to his new reality of joblessness. As the months tick by and the pandemic worsens, he grows more and more despondent. Audition Date(s) (if applicable):
December 11th, 2021 (11am and 2pm)
Character 1 Name:
Young Martius
Character 1 Age:
12-14
Character 1 Description:
Coriolanus’ and Virgilia’s young son. He idolizes his father and has already begun mandatory, State military training for young boys, much to the dismay of Virgilia. While Volumnia, Coriolanus' mother, encourages Young Martius to follow in his father’s footsteps and seek violent glory for the family, Virgilia wants to shield her son from the horrors of the world and preserve the innocent humanity in the young boy. He is as courageous as his father, and bravely stands up to him in the end, vowing to fight Coriolanus when he grew up if Coriolanus did not cease his bloody vengeance. We are looking for a young male (or male identifying/presenting) actor between the ages of 12 and 14 to play this role. It is a small, but vital role. Young Martius is in two scenes of the play: 1. He has a line in the Final Scene of the play, where he fiercely stands up to his intimidating father, which provides a crucial turning point for Coriolanus 2. He is also in Act one, Scene 3. While he does not speak, he does perform simple sword choreography (with a wooden sword) throughout the entire scene. We are therefore looking for an actor who is comfortable with Shakespearean language and who is, more crucially, able to pick up simple fight choreography quickly and is particularly comfortable and enthusiastic with physical performance and choreography.
