During this, she is put through a Cash Cab-style game show by the crazed driver, who is secretly her ex- boyfriend who will do whatever it takes to get his revenge on her. This short is inspired by both a melatonin-fueled nightmare after watching Joe Keery's movie Spree, and the writer/director's love for dark comedies.

Synopsis or Project Context (commercial/corporate projects, see note below):
June, a passive talented high school table tennis player lives between practicing at school and going home to an absent father. As the best player on the team, Coach Stan plans to nominate June for a prestigious BC table tennis training camp before the big spring tournament but when transfer student Riley joins the team, June’s world turns upside down. As the coach begins to show more enthusiasm towards Riley and June uncovers her father’s secret - of which he’s been spending time with another woman and her daughter, everything comes to a head as the final tip of the straw comes when Riley is selected as the chosen candidate for the table tennis training camp. This causes June to spiral internally, unable to comprehend her situation, she turns to an unfortunate conclusion, bashing RIley over the head with her table tennis paddle, choosing violence over acceptance.
Submission Instructions:

Please submit a current headshot, demo reel, and resume to casting@rainscopefilmworks.com. Please include your name and contact information in your submission.

Character 1 Name:
June
Character 1 Age:
15-25
Character 1 Description:
Korean-Canadian A passive, timid and observant girl. A top player at her school table tennis team, she harbours a talent for the sport but never feels a huge ‘passion’ for it. She instead plays almost out of obligation to herself and her talents. With a semi-absent father, the only sense of purpose she feels is on the court to her and herself alone but when transfer student, Riley steals this away from her, the bubbling insecurities and fears within her rise to the surface culminating in violence. She represents our fears of having no purpose and feelings of abandonment, what happens when you are left to your own devices for too long?
Character 2 Age:
15-25
Character 2 Name:
Riley
Character 2 Description:
Any ethnicity June’s ‘Rival’. The new transfer student in town who has an immense talent for table tennis. She is completely innocent and lives her own life, she has zero idea about how much she is affecting June and her playing at no one’s fault. Some might consider her a ‘natural gift’, even though she believes there isn’t much of a future in table tennis but continues playing anyway. This belief will cause a ripple effect in the ‘rivalry’ between June and Riley. A rivalry that only exists to June.
Character 3 Name:
Woo-Suk
Character 3 Age:
45-55
Character 3 Description:
Korean-Canadian June’s semi-absent, unintentionally cold father. His wife left him and June when June was very young and that has left a scar in his heart. Instead of properly trying to rebuild his family and relationship with June, he’s turned elsewhere, looking for that acceptance from somewhere else. He finds it in another family, a young mother and her daughter. Although without ill intention, he hides it from June that he spends time with someone else’s child, his ignorance and insecurity/fear stops him from opening up and being honest. But that doesn’t mean he doesn’t love and care for June, he’s just retreated back to what’s easier for him, by staying hidden but of course a secret can’t always stay hidden.
Character 4 Name:
Coach Stan
Character 4 Age:
30 - 40
Character 4 Description:
Caucasian/Open A somewhat passionate coach on the floor but a pessimist in life. He believes he was made to do more, play in the big leagues but now he’s stuck coaching a team of students. It’s not that he doesn’t have any respect for them but there will always be a side of him that’ll feel regretful. He tries to train them for the big stadiums, play for big crowds, maybe he’s a bit too serious about it, forgetting that most of these students are playing out of extracurricular but at least he has June… and now Riley.
Character 5 Name:
Lily
Character 5 Age:
15-25
Character 5 Description:
Any ethnicity The foil for June. Also on the table tennis team, she is June’s only real friend, the one person she feels she can talk to honestly somewhat. Lily’s also the only one who will call her out on things and see through June’s quiet exterior, which June doesn’t even realize she needs but Lily does it anyway. She’s a lot more chatty but still remains incredibly observant, never one to stray away from details. She doesn’t take the sport nearly as seriously as June does but she’s there to support and pass time since she has nothing better to do cause being on the court around others is still slightly better than being home with her family.

Synopsis or Project Context (commercial/corporate projects, see note below):
Ever been dumped… then watched your ex move on in record time? Clark has, and the humiliation hits so hard he’s seconds away from doing something drastic. In our comedy short film, Winning, a freshly heartbroken Clark spirals after his ex shows up at the bar with her new boyfriend, “Chet” (the nicest asshole alive). Determined to prove he’s not the loser in the breakup, Clark attempts a good deed for a homeless man that explodes into a public disaster. With the help of his friends, an electric razor, and an unexpectedly insightful stranger, Clark has to answer one question: in this breakup, will he be a winner, or a loser? We plan for the film to run around 15 minutes and are submitting it to various film festivals across Canada and the United States.

Audition Date(s) (if applicable):
March 16th 2026 - may 1st 2026
Character 1 Name:
Clark
Character 1 Age:
19-25
Character 1 Description:
Clark is a heterosexual man in his early 20s; everything about him screams “Performative.” Clark is confident yet self-destructive; the basis of his character is that he's completely blind to his own actions, instead blaming others in his life and relationships for his misfortunes. Clark's the kind of guy to listen to Radiohead on a sunny day and pretend he can play guitar (he can’t). On the outside, he's good-looking and full of bravado, but at his core, he's a lovable and kind person; he’s a sensitive young man who's just too caught up in his own world for his own good.
Character 2 Age:
19-25
Character 2 Name:
Ricky
Character 2 Description:
Ricky is in his early 20s, pursuing his master’s in psychology (he loves reminding people of that). He’s also Clark’s best friend. Ricky is even-tempered, calm and calculated. He is almost the antithesis of Clark. Ricky doesn’t have a lot of friends, but the friends he does have, he has formed deep connections with. Ricky has no desire for attention; more than anything, he just wants to help the people around him through his pretentious use of psychology. Ricky is of an open ethnicity and open sexual orientation, he is around 5’7 to 6’3.
Character 3 Name:
Homeless man
Character 3 Age:
30-65
Character 3 Description:
The Homeless man is maybe the pivotal role in the entire film, showing Clark, as well as the audience, that in breakups, there are no winners and losers. Although he looks slightly dishevelled, he is the only person in the film who can see past all the BS the characters spout at Clark and delivers true wisdom: that winning is about accepting defeat and moving on. Starting out as a character who shows up for a few laughs in the middle, the character later reveals themselves to be insightful, candid, and witty, echoing the film's message.
Character 4 Name:
"Her"
Character 4 Age:
19-25
Character 4 Description:
"Her" is the most mysterious character; her name is never mentioned, yet she's the catalyst for the entire film. She is stylish, tall and breathtaking. She is very much an "it" girl, but inside, she's just as confused and caught up in her own world as Clark. The character of "Her" gives the audience a monologue in the middle of the film, showing that she is not actually the villain of this story; instead, Clark was the reason for their breakup.
Character 5 Name:
Becca
Character 5 Age:
19-25
Character 5 Description:
Becca plays the mother of Clark’s friend group, as she’s sweet, kind, and often a little overprotective in the way she looks out for everyone. She naturally takes on a nurturing role, always checking in and making sure people are okay, even when they don’t realize they need it. Her presence brings a sense of warmth and stability to the group, especially during moments when things feel uncertain or overwhelming. Her role is to steer Clark back into reality; she grounds him when he starts to spiral and reminds him of what still matters outside of his own head. Through her compassion and quiet honesty, she shows Clark that even during his breakup, the world isn’t a bad place to be, and that there’s still good around him if he’s willing to see it.
Additional Characters:

Evan
19-25
male
Evan is a man obsessed with one thing: having a good time. Evan is Clark's college friend and is always either high, drunk or in between. Within the story, he plays devil's advocate to Clark. Evan is basically the personification of a young Barney Stinson from How I Met Your Mother. Evan is 5'5-5'10

Alice, Alice! is a fifteen-minute Japanese drama short film that, through the restrained and nuanced perspective of a housewife, tells a story of past trauma, dreams, and choices. Arisu, a timid housewife trapped in an oppressive marriage, has long abandoned her youthful dream of becoming an idol. When her husband tries to throw away a box of her old idol belongings, Arisu discovers a camcorder that triggers memories of Alice—a childhood phantom who shared the same dream but suffered severe abuse. Haunted by visions of Alice and fragments of the past, Arisu is drawn into a surreal theatrical world where she once again stands on stage as an idol, watched by a mysterious masked audience. As the boundary between memory and reality dissolves, Alice confronts Arisu with the truth she has tried to forget: the dream they once shared and the self Arisu buried in order to survive.
